Always doing

What I should be doing is getting this pile of paper off my desk. But what am I really doing? Reading your beautimous blogs.

What I should be doing is saving my money, paying off my car and putting even more money in a retirement account. But what am I really doing? Taking two weeks of vacation, visiting fabulous restaurants and looking at the real estate listings (who needs some huge down payment, anyway?).

What I should be doing is let my hair be it's natural self, always wear hats in the sun and count every calorie that passes my lips. What am I really doing? Getting highlights (addicted), frolicking in the sun with merely SPF 20 (that's good, right?), and eating pretty much everything that tastes good (not a lot of it, but yes, EVERYTHING).

What I should be doing is getting plenty of rest, sticking exactly to a good training schedule and and making sure to stretch on a regular basis. What I'm really doing is getting "enough" rest, running because it feels good (hello, 8:00 mile) and stopping when it feels bad, and well, of course I'm stretching. We all know I am, if nothing else, the Queen of Stretching.

The surprising part is, it's all good anyway. Life can be pretty dang awesome that way. I saw this quote this morning:

"It's wonderful what we can do if we're always doing." – George Washington, 1732-1799, First American President

Notice it doesn't say it's wonderful what we can do if we're always following all the rules. It's a good thing, because I'm clearly not built to follow all the rules.

I love the quote. I don't follow the rules, exactly, either, but - what would life be like if we followed all of them? That said, I think I could follow your rules! ;)

Life is too short to be responsible and follow the rules all the time. That's boring and no fun! Everybody deserves a good vacation and sounds like you are going to have a great one!

It is funny because I don't even think about those as rules - mere suggestions or ideas that may seem good at times.

It's not suprising to me, after all, moderation is one of the seven virtues.

Great quote! And I'm also hoping spf 20 is okay once in a while, that's all I'm wearing! (It's currently raining here so I think I'll be okay). Have a great weekend!

I've sadly become a stretcher because of my newly crappy knee. Ugg. I'd rather be doing than stretching, but it seems I can't do one without the other anymore.

At least you are wearing sunblock! I usually forget till it's too late. That's because we don't see the sun that often here, and then it's hard to remember the sun-rules.

I think your rule about eating is a smart one. I eat what I want, and with the exception of chocolate and french fries, just eat small portions. All bets are off on the chocolate and fries though!

Here's to rule breaking.

Stretching is the best part of exercising, but that could be my inherent laziness talking.

I believe we should eat everything; life's too short to say no thanks.

Beautimous....I like that! And rules give me hives. I say you only live once and as long and no one (including yourself) is getting hurt, well have at it girl!

TE- Yeah, I have never been good at it. Why do I even try? :)

Beth- Yeah, there are better things to worry about, that's for sure.

e.b.- Apparently, I don't either. :)

JACC- What are the other six?

Brandy- Better than nothin'!

Dawn- I think it's age... I no longer have that "bounce back" ability of my early 20's. It's all good, though. What I've lost in flexibility I've gained in patience. Sometimes. :)

Michelle- Ohhhh, fries!

Nicole- Indeed!

Barb- Yeah, a bit of it all couldn't hurt.

GG- Good philosphy! And yes, beautimous has been a term in my family forever... I don't know who made it up but I use it as if it's a real word.

Sounds like a good life...

It's such a lovely weekend for all of those things! Well, not the paper pushing, but you catch my drift

We have a motto here and it goes like this:
"We have rules.....We break them"!
Cheers to you girl!

Following the rules is so boring...and hey, highlights are fun, who says your hair has to be the way you were born??

Ah, stretching...I'm getting yelled at by my massage therapist (yes, I have a massage therapist, aren't friends grand??? :) for not stretching enough...

I need to get back on the eating right thing though after a binge weekend...

Hmm...20 is good...I have 15 in my face lotion, that's about all I wear...I'm bad...
